| ORHC Report - 3RD XI v GOAN EXILES (Sat 06-Mar-10) |
| Result: | 3RD XI 1 - 9 GOAN EXILES |
| Report: | This was always going to be a tough game against top of the league Goan, an amalgamation of players from the current league and a much higher league. With an average goal rate of six per game, and goals against being a lot less than one per game, it's no surprise that Goan are runaway league leaders. So when Reigatians found themselves short of a player, the remaining ten players knew they were in for a hard time and this proved to be true when Goan scored a goal within two minutes when a powerful pinpoint accurate cross was struck in at close range.
Before long Goan had two goals, but Reigatians pulled one back when Rob Evans' ball into the D bounced off the post to create enough confusion for Andy Warr to eventually set up Busta Grimes who slotted the ball home.
This was little consolation though, as Goan attacked more and made the score 6-1 by half time. Every goal was of an extremely high standard and there was little that the Reigatian ten-man side could do to stop these goals.
The second half saw Reigatians battle on, with Dan Pilgrim pulling off some excellent saves, Freddie Swift being solid and hard up the back, supported by Richard Fowler and Doug Pratley. Matthew Van-Noort-Pendleton made an impressive debut on the wing, and the rest of the Reigatians made a huge effort to restrict the Goan goal-scoring chances. Three more goals were taken by Goan in the second half though, including a shot four foot high that a Goan player deflected into the goal - if he missed, he would probably be too injured to play next week.
The 9-1 result was a tough one to swallow, but every Goan goal was of an exceptionally high standard. |
